Age 20; Rich girl disowned by her parents and dumped by her fiancé for joining the church.

 

Lavinia Triplett

Age 35; Old maid, plain, prudish, but sings like a nightingale.

 

Lizzie Cornell

Age 25; Lower class cockney who joins the Church to get to America.

 

Susannah Watts

Age 18; Crossing with her twin sisters to join her mother and brother who are already in Utah.

 

Phoebe Watts

Age 10; Twin who wears her braids tied up.

 

Fanny Watts

Age 10; Twin who lets her braids fall to her "fanny."

 


Leaders of the Church:


George Q. Cannon

Apostle; President of the European Mission who makes all the arrangements for the emigration of the Saints and personally sends out each ship.

 

William Brammal

President of the Company of Saints, with councilors President Richard Palmer and President Edward L. Sloan.

 

James H. Hart

New York Immigration Agent who receives each ship at NYC and makes arrangements for the overland trip to Florence, Nebraska.

John Harvey Tippetts

President over the Seven Sisters' Ward.

 

Marcus Fielding

Returning missionary from Wales who falls for Susannah.

 

George Careless

Well-known musician who organizes choirs on the ship.
